WHAT ARE THE LAWS SPECIFIC TO ELECTRIC BIKES?

Electric, Pedal-assisted or eBikes do not require a license or insurance. Although some eBikes have settings above 250W, 250W is the limit for public roads with a top speed of 15.5mph (you can still travel more quickly than this, just not with motor assistance). eBikes using over 250W should be used off-road, and riders should be a minimum of 14 years old. HOW DO CYCLE TO WORK SCHEMES OPERATE?

We’re passionate about eBikes and helping our customers achieve a healthier, happier and more sustainable lifestyle. We are a huge supporter of Cycle to Work Schemes, given their environmental and financial benefits, and as such we are partnered with a number of nationally recognised schemes.

In the simplest terms your employer (they must be part of a Cycle to Work Scheme) is buying the bike and you are ‘hiring’ it back off them (you can still keep your bike at the end of the term). This enables you to spread the cost of your eBike over 12 months, whilst paying for it from your net salary, therefore saving the tax and NI costs.

So, what does that mean? – you save 32-47% on the cost of the bike based on your earnings – the more tax you pay, the more you save! The exact saving is determined when you complete your application and choose your bike and accessories.

HOW FAR CAN I TRAVEL WITH AN ELECTRIC BIKE?

E-bike batteries typically start at around 250 watt-hours capacity and most e-bike motors are rated at 250 watts. So in theory in this case, if your motor was running at full power, it would drain your battery in an hour. That's enough time to cover up to 15 miles/24km, depending on how fast you ride.

In reality, most cyclists don’t cycle at full power for their whole ride, at half power you could double the range and so on… Range also depends on the specific model of bike, rider weight, cycling terrain and conditions. Some bikes allow you to programme your journey ensuring you will receive assistance throughout your ride. For more detail, consult the user manual on the product page.

 

HOW LONG DOES THE BATTERY TAKE TO CHARGE?

Charge time for your eBike will vary based on your battery size and charger power, although most batteries charge in 3-8 hours and all batteries can be partially charged in reduced time if required.

 

CAN I REMOVE THE BATTERY?

On many eBikes you are able to remove the battery, whereas other products have integrated batteries, designed to be charged via the bike itself. This is product specific and very clear on the product page description.

 

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE BIKE/BATTERY GETS WET?

Electric bikes are designed to work perfectly in the rain. They are typically classed as water resistant, which means they can operate perfectly if wet, for example, travelling in the rain or through puddles. The level of water resistance is product specific and should be checked on the manufacturer’s instructions. Submerging the battery or motor, or power-washing are not advisable. You can check the IP Rating or Ingress Protection rating on the Product Specification, which will outline the level of water resistance.

 

WHATS THE LIFESPAN OF AN eBIKE BATTERY?

Generally speaking, an eBike battery can last anywhere from 3-5 years. Of course, that depends on a number of things including the type of battery itself and just how well you take care of it.

The most common battery found in modern electric bikes is a lithium battery. These Long-lasting batteries can usually withstand around 1,000 charge cycles – so you’re sure to get several years and thousands of cycling miles out of your battery. In addition many manufacturers have removable batteries, enabling you to replace the battery in the future if needed.

 

WHAT SIZE e-BIKE DO I NEED?

The size of the bike you need is very much dependent not simply on your size, but also the style of the bike you are riding, for example a folding commuter bike would have different sizing to a mountain bike.

  • 20" frame bikes fit people 5'10 to 6' 2".
  • 19" frame bikes fit people 5' 9" to 5' 11".
  • 18" frame bikes fit people 5' 8" to 5' 10".
  • 17" frame bikes fit people 5' 7" to 5' 9".
  • 16" frame bikes fit people 5' 6" to 5' 8".
  • 15" frame bikes fit people 5' 5" to 5' 7".

 

CAN I RIDE AN e-BIKE WITHOUT THE MOTOR?

Yes, electric bikes can be used as traditional bicycles if you leave the assistance off.

It is worth considering, the added weight of the battery and motor may require a little more effort compared to a regular bike however the bike will operate perfectly well without assistance.

HOW MUCH DOES DELIVERY COST?

It's Free for all orders over £500. Part of our commitment to outstanding customer service is to try and avoid hidden costs. For orders below £500, delivery will vary based on weight and location and will be outlined clearly on our website.

 

WILL MY e-BIKE BE DELIVERED ASSEMBLED?

The key components, electric motors, gears, brake systems etc. all arrive assembled. No technical knowledge is required to assemble an eBike just a basic knowledge of how a bike is put together. Most bikes will arrive assembled, but for packaging reasons some products may need handlebars, saddles, wheels, pedals or other minor parts assembling.

 

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE BIKE I WANT IS NOT IN STOCK?

We only work with the UKs leading electric bike brands to ensure, not only quality, but also certainty of delivery. On the rare occasion a product is out of stock and you have placed an order, there is no need to worry. Your card will be pre-authorised, so we can check availability, ONLY when stock is confirmed will you be charged. If there is a delay, such as an item on backorder, we will void any pre-authorisation and contact you to confirm how you would like to proceed.

 

WHAT HAPPENS ONCE I’VE PLACED MY ORDER?

Once your order has been placed, assuming it is in stock and available for dispatch, we will charge your card and your order will typically be dispatched within 5 working days. We’ll send you tracking details by email within 24 hours of your order being dispatched. 

 

CAN YOU DELIVER THROUGHOUT THE UK?

We work with the UKs leading brands and delivery services, and as such cover the vast majority of the UK. If you have concerns regarding your specific location, please contact us via email info@leisurexpert.co.uk or a call 0333 090 6939 and we can confirm.

 

HOW LONG WILL DELIVERY TAKE?

Delivery times vary based on the specific product ordered, stock availability and location. As soon as your product is ordered you will receive a confirmation email, followed up by our delivery partners who will confirm a convenient day and time for delivery.

 

DO YOU DELIVER AT THE WEEKEND?

Unfortunately not, our delivery partners need a break too! We know your time is precious though, and that’s why our delivery partners always get in touch in advance to confirm a suitable day and time for delivery. 

 

WHAT IF MY PRODUCT IS DAMAGED WHEN I TAKE DELIVERY?

On the rare occasion this occurs, if you discover that an item has been damaged once removed from the packaging, please send clear photos of the damaged items, immediately upon receipt of the products, to info@leisurexpert.co.uk, so that we can open an insurance claim on your behalf.

 

WHAT HAPPENS IF I NEED TO RETURN A PRODUCT?

In the unlikely event you want to return your product you have 14 days from receipt. To ensure you receive a full refund the product needs to be in its original packaging and in the condition you received it. You would be responsible for any return costs to our suppliers and a re-stocking fee. Please ensure you contact us at info@leisurexpert.co.uk before returning any item to ensure the correct process is followed, to enable you to receive your refund.
